Rock Art & Dino Tracks
Hunting for Dino Prints or ancient Petroglyphs and Pictographs? Rock art is smattered on the walls throughout the San Rafael Swell and there are many signs of the area's very first residents: dinosaurs.
There are too many exhibits in this "open-air" museum to lead you to all of them. Here are 4 side trips you'll love. For help getting to other sites visit one of the areas information centers or book a trip with a local guide service. Traveling with an expert ensures that you'll see much more of the rock art hiding on the stone ledges.
The Cottonwood Wash/ Buckhorn Wash road trip takes you to the Buckhorn Wash Panel, other petroglyphs and dinosaur prints. Two adjoining trips, the Moore Cutoff and Rochester Creek Rock Art Panel access roads lead you to more dinosaur tracks and the fabulous Rochester Creek Panel. Black Dragon is a short side trip off I-70 that offers many rock art panels and scenic hiking or 4 wheel driving. Each of these side trips are the perfect bicycle or ATV adventure. Just remember to stick to the established roads.
